The Press Release
How to write a simple press release
As the community news reporter for a local newspaper, I see dozens of press releases each and every week. And while I glance at each and every one of them, there are only a handful that stand out to grab my attention and interest.
Below are some ideas to help you make your next press release stand out in the bunch.
The Basic Press Release
Press Release
1.) Start with a Release Date
2.) Information about who to contact
3.) A Headline
- City, state, date release was mailed
- text of release
Begin with a timely hook line - (a common need)
Follow with a Solution - ( to the common need)
Then follow with:
who
what
where
what
why
how
And please don't forget the contact name and phone number.
I can't tell you how sad it is when I have wanted to do an article on a upcoming event only to find out there was no way to contact anyone to set up an interview.
Add some Stuff!
Pictures...pictures...pictures.
If you got them, send them along in the press release. Doesn't matter if it's a hard copy picture or picture burned to a CD. We love them! (generally speaking).
Be sure that your photos are clear and bright.
Also-be sure to list the names of the people in the photo from left to right.
